Yo all, school's been a b-tch.  Anyway, here we go.  Pics, as usual--

Well, this is an off topic, but let me introduce you to the ugliest man in the entire NBA (that's the US pro basketball league for those who don't know what it is for whatever reason), Mr Sam Cassell.  And let me say that NOBODY asked for this picture to be posted on the Internet, but I'll share the enjoyment of viewing it with you all anyway.

The "King" gets his first taste of pro wrestling

Woo go team!  Japan go Japan team baseball go team!  Who want sushi juice?????!!!!

The entire Future Korea Nat'l Kimchi-saliva-drooling-evoking Club, straight from HQ in Seoul.  Why the h-ll was this picture taken?

Your guess is as good...

Coolest kid I know.  Just liked this pic, sorry man.

Question of the Post (should I start calling this QUOP or something witty like that?) (Warning: if you don't like thinking, the post is over for you):  What's college life like for the typical asian american?  Do lots of people stay with their chosen Asian organizations a lot?

At UC Berkeley, there was an insane amount of asians--the statistic I heard was 40%, versus 30% caucasian/white.  Now that might be cool for a month, you know, seeing this sea of yellow swarming the campus.  But after I while you'd get annoyed by the constant annoyances of asian people that you might have.  Plus your view of reality would become distorted if you got used to it, and you might be creeped out by the area not being primarily white.  Maybe I'm exaggerating--anyone got firsthand experiences or just ideas to weigh in with?

Stanford, the asian kids and all the people in general were pretty nice looking and cool from what I could pick up.  I could see no problem with going there, and I'm sure I could find someone to fit in with, even moreso than Berkely despite the statistics.  Again, anyone go to Stanford?

Oh, and let me leave you with a PBF for those who haven't been graced by it in their surely miserable lives (click for bigger picture, I wanted to maintain the width):

Ha.  Sam Cassell is kind of ugly.  But he is a good player and seems like he is nice enough.

My views certainly don't reflect those of the typical Asian American college student, but I think that college life is not very enjoyable. Although I'm usually too busy studying to really care about the events that are happening around here, I have encountered too many Asian Americans who believe in stupid stereotypes about interracial dating. Neither side is willing to admit their own faults to the other side even though it's so easy to spot the flaws in their arguments. Just witnessing so much ignorance gathered in one place makes my blood boil. Even though I went to a predominantly Asian high school, there weren't any Asian Americans bickering with one another because of these things.

I guess I've had my fair share of bad experiences with all sorts of people of my race in college. I've dealt with people who smoke cigarettes in large groups while standing outside with their rice rockets, exchanging dirty looks with me. I've been yelled at by women who apparently believe in the negative stereotypes about Asian men when it comes to dating even though I'm not interested in dating any of them. And I've been harrassed by the people of my race for not having any cultural pride.

I would say that many students remain in Asian organizations. But I personally don't join such clubs or organizations because I fail to see the importance of cultural identity. That, and it kind of goes against my beliefs that everyone should be seen as equal regardless of their ethnic background. I just don't like it when people celebrate their differences. One professor has even written an essay about how cultural pride can destroy the unity of our nation.

As of now, I'm actually struggling to find other Asian students who believe in what I believe in. In a school with tens of thousands of students, I would like to think that at least one person agrees with me. But for now, I shall remain alone in my thoughts.

I would go to Stanford if I could. Tuition fees have been wavered for families that make less than $45k a year so perhaps I can get a transfer agreement with them sometime. Perhaps the college experience will be far better up there.

when u r freshman in college, people makes friends and cliques. Some people make good friends. Some people make wrong friends and end up looking for different clique. However as years go by, it's hard for friends to see each other because everyone has different majors and they take different classes. My point is, don't worry about the percentage of ethnicity when u decide for college cause it won't be big of a deal.

hi there...i have visited both berkeley and stanford and you're pretty much right about both. the asians at berkeley do have a reputation though for being very, VERY competitive. and they'll do anything to be sure that they are the ones who set the curve. but i know plenty of people, asian and non asian, that are going to berkeley next year and they're fantastic people. classes are also much bigger there and you're probably not going to get a lot of help. i think it just depends...if you get into both, i'd say definitely pick stanford if you like the private school environment and the small city atmosphere (i did not apply to stanford because i live in suburban southern california and going to palo alto was pretty much like driving 7 hours to a place that looked exactly like where i lived). just like gooksantiger says, don't make ethnicity stats a factor in your college decisions, it's what you think about the campus and how you think you're going to succeed there.

I'm headed to UC San Diego next year, which also has a reputation for being primarily asian (i mean, yellow fever, c'mon...). i'm not sure how my college experience is going to be compared to yours since i'm only half-asian, but i guess i'm just going to have to take things how they come and deal with it then. best of luck to you!

oh yeah and responding to phobious_pimip, the city of berkeley is pretty bad (bums and everything) but that means it's more fun right? proof = tijuana :D

if i were you i wouldn't give a damn about the demographic of any school. i will choose a school that i like and then go with the flow. any ivy league school will have tonnes of asian therefore you can't escape it.

my advice for you is to choose a small school that is far away from your home........dont choose big schools because you wont learn as much as you can in smaller ones. try to stay in rez. for first year bc u will make friend with a lot of people.

university experience is awesome......you'll will have the best time of your life, as least youll have the most fun
